Nanotechnology Train-the-Trainer Workshop
August 3 - 7, 2009 |
| |
Utilizing NACK Class Notes/Lab Resources for the Teaching of the Second Course Set from the Suite of Six Nanotechnology Courses:
(3) Materials in Nanotechnology and (4) Patterning for Nanotechnology
Go to agenda.
|
This five-day workshop is intended for faculty and administrators at post-secondary institutions which presently are offering, or which intend to offer, nanotechnology courses based on the NACK suite of six nanotechnology courses. This workshop will focus on the second set of courses in the 6 course suite: (3) Materials in Nanotechnology and (4) Patterning for Nanotechnology. This specific workshop follows the April 2009 workshop which covered the NACK hands-on teaching approach to the introductory course set (1) Materials, Safety, and Equipment Overview and (2) Basic Nanotechnology Processes. Attendance at the earlier workshop is not required for attendance at this workshop offering.
This workshop will cover teaching these two subjects, using the NACK class notes and the corresponding set of labs. Background information for each of the two courses will also be provided. The workshop will cover the strategies for the conducting of the NACK-provided labs for each of the two courses. We will also discuss the equipment needs for the labs, equipment costs, and sustaining costs. The various modes in which institutions may choose to present these courses and their labs will be examined varying from complete in-house offerings to web-augmented joint offerings with NACK.
Additional workshops are available focusing on utilizing NACK Notes/Lab Resources for additional course sets covering (1) Materials, Safety, and Equipment Overview and (2) Basic Nanotechnology Processes as well as our Course Set III covering (5) Materials Modification in Nanotechnology and (6) Characterization, Testing of Nanotechnology Structures and Materials. |
Workshop dates and Venue:
|
This workshop will be held from Monday August 3rd through Friday August 7th 2009 (see preliminary agenda below). Lectures / discussions will be held at the Days Inn in State College, Pennsylvania, and hands-on laboratory work will be accomplished at the cleanrooms at the Penn State University Materials Research Institute (MRI) in University Park, Pennsylvania. |
